Do you have a passion for creating engaging and visual communication? Carmarthenshire County Council are looking for a Graphic Designer to help organise design and print requests from across the organisation.

Joining the marketing and media team, you will be responsible for designing and producing a range of print and digital materials for various campaigns, projects and events. You will work closely with other departments and stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver high-quality solutions that meet their objectives.

The council are looking for someone who has excellent creative skills and who is organised and able to regularly work to deadlines.

As part of a hybrid working arrangement, the role will be a mix of office and remote working.

Key responsibilities

  • Liaise directly with clients (internal and external) to understand their project needs (from initial idea to final completion), advising and making recommendations on what is achievable and deliverable.
  • To accurately apply the Carmarthenshire County Council brand identity (and any other in its architecture), acting as both advocate and guardian in ensuring its correct usage and visibility in all work
  • To ensure all output fully complies with relevant legislation and standards on accessibility for example as well as the authority’s Welsh language policy.
  • To support the print function to ensure best value in accordance with the council’s contractor framework.
  • To be aware of development in the wider design community
  • To undertake any additional duties as requested
  • To fully support the principles of good customer care in undertaking all duties.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications, Vocational training and Professional Memberships

Degree in graphic design / technical graphics or equivalent experience

Job Related Skills and Competencies

Extensive experience operating Apple Mac and/or PC hardware and software, fully literate in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite including design software Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat Pro as well as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
Ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships at all levels, internally and externally

Knowledge

Understanding of developing and creatively implementing brand positioning, architecture and visual identities across multi service platforms

Knowledge of latest design software training, hardware and software including those through Adobe and InDesign Understanding of DDA compliances and Welsh language standard

Experience

Production of accurate and high-quality artwork
Experience working at speed within a busy environment managing tasks simultaneously and meeting strict deadlines

Delivering results in a resource efficient way
Procuring and managing third party suppliers ensuring projects are delivered on-time and as per quotation

  • Extremely organised, with a high attention to detail
  • Ability to work unsupervised and to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work on bilingual designs
  • Flexible approach to scheduling work
  • Excellent and positive communicator with the ability to negotiate and consult with diplomacy in both verbal and written communication.
  • Confidence to communicate at all levels both internally and externally
